Endodontics is a dental specialty concerned with the therapy of root canals, including the diagnostics, prevention and treatment of the dental pulp problems. Dental pulp is made of soft tissue inside the pulp chamber filled with thin fiber and nerves. It is an important factor in a tooth’s development and vitality. The most common cause of toothache is actually the acute infection of the pulp known as caries.
However, the inflammatory reaction does not always have such intensive and obvious symptoms. A chronic process – dental granuloma – which develops on the root tip, can still be developing in the tooth. Since its symptoms are not prominent, it can be unnoticed for quite some time. The best way to prevent caries is to be very cautious when it comes to oral hygiene, and to have it diagnosed on time to prevent it from spreading.
Tip: In case you have or suspect to have any of the above mentioned symptoms of a caries or granuloma, do not delay your visit to the dentist.
After we have had the dental X-ray, we can start the endodontic therapy of the tooth pulp in stages:
The duration of endodontic therapy depends on the patency of the canal and the type of inflammation. If the canals are passable, the tooth can be filled in one visit with the help of the top machine, Reciproc Gold technology. Otherwise, an agent that softens the hard dental tissue is applied to the canals. An exception is acute inflammation with pronounced symptoms such as pain and swelling. In this case, the root canals are filled only when the inflammation subsides.
A tooth with a chronic inflammatory process can turn into an acute inflammation at any time (decline of immunity, etc.), and it can also be an inflammatory focus for other infections and diseases in the body - for example, autoimmune diseases, acne, alopecia areata (hair loss) and others. Treatment of chronic inflammatory processes is also carried out before making prosthetic works (upgrades, crowns, bridges).
Pain after root canal filling is very common and normal. It is a pain that usually lasts 1-2 days and is not intense, but can be alleviated with analgesics if necessary. It occurs because, during canal cleaning, part of the infectious content can pass over the top of the root into the bone area. Because of this, the organism develops a mild and transient reaction in that place.
Endodontic treatment is performed under local anesthesia and is completely painless. Sometimes, in the course of severe acute inflammation or swelling, the effect of the anesthetic can be weakened.
At B.DENT we use RECIPROC GOLD machine endodontics system – the most precise and efficient system used for root canal treatment. Machine endodontics, as the most modern dental technology, improves the success rate of the root canal therapy and shortens the time of the therapy.
Note: When performing the endodontic therapy, we use local anesthetics. The treatment is painless, and sometimes it requires more than one visit to the dentist, depending on the condition of the tooth.
