Dental Crowns

With this procedure, we solve the problem of broken teeth, minor or major corrections in tooth irregularities, bridges for a minimum of three teeth, finding solutions for missing teeth, etc.

Dental crowns are the most commonly and widely used dental restoration. Based on the way they are made and the materials they are made of, we differentiate two types of dental crowns: all-ceramic and metal-ceramic crowns.

All-ceramic crowns, or non-metal crowns, are a top solution in restoration of natural dental crowns. They are extremely functional and have aesthetic features. They are made of zirconia and e.max ceramics combined with CAD/CAM computer system which individually scans and adapts the crowns to each tooth. The white cap, which is a constituent part of the crown’s base, consistently imitates the natural tooth and its transparency and the color pallet ensure excellent results.

Metal-ceramic crowns are a frequent choice due to the ratio of quality and price. They aesthetically differ from ceramic crowns, while their physical features are of an exceptionally high quality. They are firm, durable and long-lasting. The base of the metal-ceramic crown can be made of different materials – depending on the patient’s choice - from white gold to chrome-cobalt-nickel alloy.

Note: We will do an examination to determine which type of filling is the best option for your tooth. By investing in our teeth we are making a long-term investment in our oral health and our smile which is a key factor in our self-confidence.

Q&A:

When is it indicated to make a crown?

Making a crown is recommended when a large part of hard dental tissue is missing, to protect a tooth whose strength has weakened after endodontic treatment and is prone to cracking, and to change the color and/or shape of the tooth.

Which type of dental crowns should I choose?

We will base our recommendation on your needs and possibilities. All-ceramic crowns have the highest aesthetic value, but their durability is limited, so we use subconstructions made of other materials and then covered in ceramics. We recommend metal-ceramic crowns to patients in search of a quality solution at an affordable price.

Can a ceramic crown change color?

Unlike composite fillings, ceramics do not change color. For this very reason, we often advise patients who are not completely satisfied with their natural color to whiten their teeth before making large prosthetic works, so that the color of new crowns and bridges can be made in a lighter color.

What are the advantages of non-metal crowns?

At B.DENT we prefer to use E.MAX and ZIRCONIA non-metal crowns. The advantages of non-metal crowns are their biocompatibility, their production, as well as their physical and aesthetic properties. While metal-ceramic crowns are shaped by hand, non-metal crowns are machine made in the way that the print is scanned by computer, then the crown gets filed very precisely and finally the zirconia is laser cut to ensure a perfect fit. Non-metal crowns are a great option considering their impeccable aesthetics and functionality – the right choice for a perfect Hollywood smile.

When do you recommend a dental crown over an inlay or onlay or composite filling?

We recommend dental crowns in cases when most of the dental structure is decayed as a restoration of natural teeth features. The crown is aesthetically functional and it protects the rest of the tooth from decaying.

What is the durability of ceramic crowns?

The durability of a well-made ceramic crown depends on the condition of the teeth under the crown and good oral hygiene. Therefore, it is important that the crown is made on repaired and well-treated teeth, and it is up to the patients to prevent caries and inflammation on the tooth under the crown by adequate cleaning.
